i didn't actually get taco time the other night.
so i wandered over to the farmers market to grab a few of the tamales jasie's been talking about for a while. i thought it was a rpetty funny thing, his farmers market. ther was some ass selling suits, another ass selling speakers, a few more asses selling crappy jewelery and then the guy trying to hawk his shitty paintings. the produce was kind of a side show it seemed. then there were the dudes who set up their "band" trying to get cred, i guess, by having a black guy in their "band" with a bad leg. was kinda sad, the drummer was like 90 yrs old, the guitar guy looked like an accountant, there was a bongo drummer who was some kind of genx hippie/washup and they had the black dude with the bad leg turned way down and his back was to everyone else. actually now that i think about it, this scene was so strange that i have no idea how it could have been put together. i kinda want to take split reactions over one time and blow these guy out of the water, and hopefully persuade the black guy with the bad leg to play with us, and turn him all the way up. and give him a chair. then i got some tamales. holy shit they were great. i got them from the tamales 'r' us stand. i got a green pork and a red chicken. i thought i loved the salvadoran tamales, but i love these way more. why hasnt someone physically forced me to get these before? i ran into errin and vegor and we hung out and ate tamales. it was a good ole time. then i got some watered down lemonade and a bitchin blueberry turnover. then i walked home and took a nap.

trying new things
i decided since i'm always eating the same places that i need to try other things on the menu, for instance, i always get the same thing at the same places:
salvadoran= loroco papusas and chicken tamale
sammys= bacon cheeseburger
7-11=hot dog and raspberry iced tea&limeade
pete's=chicken fried steak hash browns and 2 eggs over medium
india palace= chicken coconut korma
betos=texano burrito
i actually vary in my choices at nicolitalia, but its because i'm there all the time and i stick my hand in the different bins to see what i can come up with, but since i can't do this everywhere, and since the health dept probably wouldn't like customers DIY-ing all over town i kinda have to stick to menus, and since i think my choice is the best of what the menu offers i'm kinda getting bored with what i've been eating.
the caveat to all this is that the other night i was bored and depressed and i went to betos and i oredered a texano and an adobada taco. i wasn't that hungry and i didn't care if it would make me sick so i got the extra taco. man, it was delicious. i'm def gettin another one. not sure what the ingredients in the adobada marinade are, but they are super tasty. it made me wonder what else i've been missing out on. its not that i'm scared to try new stuff, but rather that i usually go to the same places becuase i know they have what i want at the moment. i need to get out of the habit of feeding into my cravings and get new stuff. so this is my new years resloution. i'm going to try new things at all my favorite haunts and expand my food horizons. with the exception of 7-11. nothing else there looks remotely good. i'm also going to start testing the water with korean food. i'm totally stupid when it comes to korean. and koreans.
oh yeah, starting monday the 8th, nicolitalia will be using a new menu, with a few new pizzas and size options. i helped invent the cocina paradiso, and it has my whole hearted stamp of approval. also try the breadsticks. they're new as of about a month ago and they're coma inducing.
last thing, i'm going to be travelling to memphis for gonerfest V from sept 24-28th so expect some posts around that time. then in october split reactions and burnt reynolds & his hot bones will hit the road touring to reno, san francisco, portland and seattle, and i'll try to keep up with what i eat and places to go while there.
and...i'll be doing food and record reviews for the UV review this semester so keep an eye out...i'll try to post links when i remember.

jambalaya
is very good. i made some last night with maggots help. yesterday was a pretty boring day at school and i went to work and kinda left early. i went home made a grilled corned beef sandwich and played around with some songs i've been working on. then i took a nap, which wasn't very fruitful because maggot kept texting me and waking me up. i did get a few minutes of shuteye. for some reason after i took this nap i was super hyper. when maggot showed up to practice at around four i was bouncing off the walls. everyone else showed up and we played around for a bit. cade thalman came by to check out my house because he's looking for a new places to record his bands. we also talked about him recording split reactions and then we started talking about what it would sound like and i was like, i really like the way big star's first album sounds, and i said do you know who that is, and he was like yeah, thats one of the best sounding records ever. i love recording geeks. so we talked about music and pretention in provo a bit more then he had to leave and i went back to practice. we worked on some new stuff and messed around for a while. all in all it was a great practice. i love when we just goof off for a while. its really productive for me, plus it helps us play together better. i wish people weren't so busy that we could do that more often. after practice me and maggot went to her house and started the jambalaya. jambalaya is easily one of my favorite foods. heres what i usually put in my jambalaya:
2 chicken breasts
1/2 polish sausage
1/2 sage breakfast sausage
1 red bell pepper
1 green bell pepper
1 yellow bell pepper
1 large can of kidney beans
1 regular can of black beans (half rinsed)
1 onion
3 cloves of garlic
3 bay leaves
1/3 cup of red wine vinegar
1 small handful of rosemary (which i crush)
1 small handfull of mexican basil
a few dashes of chili powder
a few dashes of cayenne
a few dashes of greek seasoning
a few dashes of salt
a few dashes of garlic powder
i sautee all the vegetables, and brown the meats. when i brown the breakfast sausage i pour some red wine vinegar in and cook it with that in it.
i let it simmer for a few hours (i don't wanna hear it, i like it that way) then eat it over rice after it gets thick.
delicious. delicious. delicious.
i usually get sick when i make this because i can't stop at one bowl. me and maggot ate our jambalaya while watching strangers with candy. excellent programming, if i may say so. then maggot took me home and we played with daves cat, kingsley. shes a nice cat. i hope she doesn't scratch the shit out of my vintage swedish mod lowboy chairs.

i really should start eating breakfast more. i should also remember to do my laundry before i run out and have to miss classes. i probably shouldn't get a veggie burger with bacon, but guess what, i do and i friggin love it. wanna know why? because it friggin tastes good, thats why. i eat food because it tastes good. if it doesn't taste good i don't eat it. know what else tastes good? the zapata burger i had a joe vera's tonight. that tasted way good (even though they put it on regular bread and not a bun, i guess they ran out of buns). the flan we had tonight wasn't too good, but i ate some, because it was free, and even though its not my favorite i had a few bites. yeah. and then i went to ruels show opening and it was pretty damn cool. and then i went bowling. my high tonight was about 122. not bad for not having bowled in a few years. i think i just might go again. damn straight. if you're around salt lake tomorrow night, come see split reactions play. we're playing at red light books in salt lake. 300s 200e down in the basement. should be a good time.

emiliano to the max
i'm kind of a day late on posting, as yesterday was one of the busier days i've had in a while. it started out by me and maggot going back down to the jail in spanish fork to be fingerprinted etc. i only had to wait like 10 minutes. i was the only person there, probably because criminal don't wake up as early as me. i got the pat down and then i got the photo (turn to your right) then i did the finger prints. utah county has a fancy digital fingerprinter thing. you just put your fingers and thumbs on the screen and they scan it. pretty cool. after that was all over with i had to go drop the paperwork off at the 4th district court in orem. they weren't open so i had to put it in their drop box. and before you drop it in, you have to do the time date stamp. boy, was that a pain in my ass. the time stamp slot was like not even an 1/8th inch thick. so i had to like get down on my knees and jimmy the damn thing in and then it didn't do anything. so i took it out and put it back in thinking that by shoving it in and out i would like trigger the stamp. turns out thats not how it works. you have to leave it in till the next automatic stamp. hopefully after all that hard work they get it. after we did that we got some smiths fresh values gas and then went to maggots for breakfast. it was maggots birthday yesterday (march 1) and so cassie made the german pancakes but instead of watching cartoons i was forced to watch the worst television show ever produced: shelley duvalls fairy tale theater. what the hell. who let this happen? like there was some point in time where someone actually said, "oh, hey, this one is a winner. really good stuff you guys". not to mention shelley duvall is ugly as sin (bless her heart), she looks like a beaver had its way with a skeleton. like the premise of the show is to find hollywood actors in need of a check and completely debase and under use their talents. for some reason maggot and cassie love it. like, genuinely. its times like these i question their taste. maggots addiction to bollywood is another. after suffering through two of these episodes maggot and i decided to go take some photos. we drove around til we found a dump and took lots of pictures of trash. it was a good time and then when dustbowl 2008 hit provo we left. we were getting kinda hungry too.
DISCLAIMER:ok. i must warn you. the next few sentences will change your life.
maggot and i, after some amount of discussion, decided to go to joe vera's fiestaurant for her birthday lunch. i'm not the biggest fan of that place, but it was maggots birthday so we went. after perusing the menu for a while, i found the american food section. don't get me wrong, i really dig me some mexican food (las tarascas) but joe veras wasn't really my fav. until now. i ordered the zapata burger. people of earth, heed my words: the zapata burger at joe veras fiestaurant is one of, if not the tastiest burgers i have ever had the privilege to consume. sweet jesus i was in heaven. like every bite was better than the last. and even after i was done it kept tasting better. the only 2 burgers who are near in comparison are 1).shirley's cheeseburger at the lamplighter in memphis and 2).the one the old lady at jacks rib shack in memphis used to make before she quit. i have a feeling this cheeseburger will be a very common item on my dinner palate. maybe even lunch and breakfast too. and just like emiliano zapata is one of mexicos greatest heroes, this burger is one of mine. after engorging ourselves with too much food again, we went back to maggots and kinda just fell asleep. after a good 2 hour nap we woke up and went back over to my house for the party/show. we told everyone to be there at like 7:30. and of course no one really showed up til 8. perfect. karl and kahea's band played first. it was dancy and had beats mixed with metal and it was all done by laptop. it was pretty fun. next came ccqb. they pulled off a pretty good set too. i think this was like their 3rd or 4th show and they're getting tighter. everyone was into it. after they finished we (the split reactions) played. i thought we did great but maggot and rob thought we sucked. whatever. i had fun and the people in the crowd appeared to have fun so its cool with me. we're playing on friday with cass railroad or something, then again saturday in salt lake with agape and the kidneys at red light books (300s 200e) if anyone is interested. then the alligators played. those guys have gotten so good in the last few months, like they have a real handle on their sound. and this show was so much fun because of it. all the bands that played were great and the crowd was great and everyone stayed (which is like the first time thats ever happened i think). after the show maggot destroyed the pinata cassie and dave got. and a few people scrambled to grab the candy, but mostly its still sitting on the ground outside my house. next to the big pile of trash no one seems to want to move. at that point most everyone left and we all hung out till the only people left were me maggot lex and austin. after chatting and goofing off for about an hour we decided to get some pizzas and watch the venture brothers. it was at that point i fell asleep. viva zapata(burger).

ugh.
today was the day of the bad food decision. except for the naked juice i had in the early part of the day and the w.muffin everything else kinda sucked. after i went to math for 4.57 minutes i walked down to alex's office and showed him the link to the photos i took yesterday and we talked about modern times a bit more. he's pretty easily excitable when you get him on a good subject. we talked for about 30 minutes or so then i had to run because maggot was going to take me to the utah county jail to get finger printed and stuff for being a criminal.turns out we got there at the busiest time of the day. lunchtime. ad i guess they had 1000s of people to process and the corrections officers wouldnt give anyone an approximate wait time. i'm calling shennanigans. those clowns were back in the back with their thumbs up their butts taking bets on who's thumb would taste best. thats why they couldn't take 5 minutes to roll my fingers through in and take a snapshot. i was complaining to maggot about efficiency in government employees. she said i'm not to expet anything of the sort, but i said that since i pay taxes my taxes should pay for efficiency and i can expect efficiency in public servants. i guess i'm wrong. on our way back from a wasted trip to fort spanish fork we stopped at noodles and co to grab a bite. maggot got the mac and cheese and i got the curry something or other. it wasn't that my ood tasted bad, it was more that i had eaten a w.muffin and was still kinda full and shouldn't have kept eating. i was still kinda paranoid from yesterday that i wouldn't feel full after i ate and so i guess i felt like i needed to binge. bad idea. i wasn't sick or anything, but after being at work for abut 20 minutes, vegor walked in with one of those dirty ass pork sandwiches they sell at the courte side grille and i could smell it. and dammit i had to get one. so, after eating the w.muffin, the coconut curry noodles with chicken i then ate one of those disgusting pork sandwiches. even at this hour i have no idea what possessed me. like after two bites i was full, but my retard ego says to me, no, dammit, you're eating that sandwich whether you've got room or not. eventually the rest of my subconscious kicked in to gear and i looked at what i was doing and ate all but about 2 bites. man was that stupid. not 15 minutes later i could feel my stomach punching at my asshole trying to make way for three meals worth of mistakes. problem was, i needed to get some flyers out for the show saturday and there is no way i was going to take a dump in the L.A. building. waaay to many people. my poops are afraid of strangers. after getting caught up in a few conversations i was nearing the threshold of caca tolerance. so i made my way to the loo underneath the cafeteria and settled in for the show. man. you guys have no idea. i'm continually amazed at the sounds and smells my body can produce. i guess if the ingredients are varied enough, all sorts of new and exciting concoctions can be discovered. i think to day was the day of new discoveries. after that fiasco i walked out to the bus stop to go to maggots. we went to grab her some new strings for her mosrite bass. while we were at practice jesse and lex ordered some pizzas and i could smell them from my room. i took a chance and ate a cold slice after we were done. i figured i could test the waters and be ok. as of this writing i am fine. but good hell, i need toreally learn how to control this appetite of mine. ask me about puppy bowl 2007 some time. i still have a hard time looking at seven layer dip after that one...

slut lake city
so i woke up today and i wanted blueberry muffins. i went to the store with maggot and got some. we made them and watched the venture brothers. we also got some cinnamon toast crunch. delicious. i had about one too many and was kinda feelin gross and stopped eating. about that time we went back over to my house for practice. and guess who came and practiced with us for the first time in a while? charley! it was great. i don't think she's going to play with us on the first, but we're all excited that she's practicing with us again. we tried to get rob to show off some of his latest drumming skills, but he got really shy and wouldn't do it. oh well. we practiced for about an hour and a half and charley left and me and maggot and rob goofed around for a while then we went back over to maggots to waste time until we were supposed to meet up with maggots friend boyd for dinner. we decided to go to las tarascas again for dinner. this time i got the gorditas with chicken. it was super good but the chicken was a bit too salty for my taste, but the goodness overpowered the salt so i was cool with it. boyd is a pretty shy kid. he's japanese american and he speaks albanian. he spent a couple of years in albania. he also said he used to listen to alot of screamo and started listing bands he liked. i didn't really catch any that i recognized. after we were done eating we dropped boyd off and raced to salt lake. i have road rage. even when i'm not driving. i hate drivers here nearly as much as anything else i can think of. heres a short list why:
no one knows merging techniques
no one knows left lane or passing lane etiquette
no one knows that you don't have to slow down at a bend in the road
no one knows that gawking causes traffic jams
no one ignores their cell phones while driving
no one knows how to keep traffic at a constant pace
i hate the billboards
that last one has nothing to do with drivers, but it bugs me regardless. once we got to salt lake we hit up the clarke planetarium to see the human body imax film. it was super good. they showed the inside of the heart and the lungs and fallopian tubes. they also showed actual food actually being digested, bile and all! it was so cool to see the intestines pushing stuff through. they also showed someone popping a zit. then after that we rolled over to no brow coffe and tea to grab a lil pick me up before the show. i'm not a big coffee drinker, it makes me crazy. i get all hyperactive and maggot laughs at me alot because i start talking quickly and can't keep a constant train of thought. after that we went to todds, which i guess we're all supposed to call broken record. we hung out there for w while and then watched an idhoan hip-hopper called dangermouth ( i know, i know) do his thang about girls stalking him and myspace and other stuff then maggots other band, the hotness, took the stage. lucky, their singer, is one of my favorite frontmen. his antics remind me of a 14 yr old kid goofing around with his amigos, what with the punching and piggy back riding of the keyboard player. after that we hung with all the dirty barfly hoes there and loaded out and left. i'm kinda hungry as i'm writing this, but i don't know if i'm more tired than hungry. i hate when i can't decide.
